It's a Thursday and it's going to be sunny and warm! There will be a break in proceedings during junior practice this evening. Join us on a sponsored walk around the boundary from 6:45pm. (Practice will continue as normal from around 7:15pm.) Participants can walk up to 10 laps of the ground, and all proceeds will go towards the new clubhouse fund. You can download a sponsorship form here, or for more information contact Ted Biggs on 07931 631322. See you this evening!
Batting first, we had Richard Cripps to thank for carrying his bat for an undefeated 50 as Dinton struggled to 112 for 9. Tight bowling and fielding kept Wycombe in check, and it was tense right up until the final over when Wycombe smashed themselves over the line. The performance was all the more impressive given that Johnny Patel was away representing Bucks under 17s. It's now two years in a row that the under 17s have taken the Aylesbury District League title but been unable to take the next step to win the Bucks trophy. Third time lucky in 2009? Congratulations to all of the under 17s (who are actually made up from under 14s, 15s, 16s and 17s) for their efforts this year and for coming so close. Thanks to all those that came to support and who generated a superb atmosphere, and thanks also to everyone who helped with the food.
We're ON this evening. However, please note that we are very short of coaches today because of A Series of Unfortunate Events, so we would appreciate everyone's cooperation and even more help from the parents as usual.Good news - Johnny's back on the barbecue. Don't forget the sponsored walk next week at 6:45pm, so pick up a sponsor form tonight and hassle your family / neighbours / schoolfriends / pets etc. if you haven't already done so.
It had to come good at some point this week...Congratulations first to the under 13Bs, who managed to defend a low total against Long Marston to win the ADL under 13s trophy by a margin of 18 runs. Success for the under 17s came at almost exactly the same moment. They beat Grendon & Westcott to clinch the ADL under 17s title with an impressive record of won 7, lost 0, rained off 2. They now meet High Wycombe in the Bucks under 17 play-off at Dinton on Monday July 21.
For the second day running the batting 'wobbled' (see under 12s story below). Despite scoring more 'gross' runs than Wendover, the loss of too many wickets meant that we ended 17 'net' runs short. However, the under 9s can still be proud of their achievements this year - well done.
Having restricted MK to 75 off their 15 overs (the overs shortened in order to allow the winners to get to the final on time), Dinton's batting was then just too fragile. Early wickets were gifted and killed the run momentum. Later batsmen were left with too much to do, and we fell four runs short. Congratulations, however, to the under 12s for their excellent work this season. Let's hope they can gain some reward at the ADL under 13s play-off on Wednesday.
4:25pm: We've just been told by Cublington that tonight's under 17 away match is OFF.We may try to rearrange next week if there is the opportunity.
Apologies for the delay - we're going to risk it, so practice is ON. (Please don't blame us if it starts to pour at 5:45pm...)Reminder, no barbecue this evening.
The under 9s and under 13Bs have both won their respective divisions, unbeaten in both cases. The under 9s will play Wendover in the ADL play-off final at Dinton next Monday July 14, starting at 6pm. The under 13Bs are predominantly made up of under 12s, so it's been a terrific performance from them to reach their play-off final. This will be at Bledlow Village on Wednesday July 16; their opponents are not yet confirmed. Please come and support our juniors in these events! Last but not least, the under 17s are once again unbeaten this year and are close to retaining their ADL title. If they should go on to win the division then there will be a play-off against High Wycombe at Dinton to decide the Bucks under 17 title. Good luck to them.
This followed Mike's stunning 170 in the win over Abingdon Vale the week before. It was so nearly three out of three this week, the seconds coming agonisingly close against Cumnor and the thirds seeing to Cropredy in some style.
